Tucson, AZ – October 22, 2018

Tucson, AZ – Arizona Repertory Theatre presents The Cripple of Inishmaan, by Oscar nominated writer and director Martin McDonagh, November 4 – December 2, 2018 in the Tornabene Theatre located at 1025 N. Olive Road (UA campus located near the SE corner of Park Avenue and Speedway Boulevard).

The Cripple of Inishmaan, directed by UA Assistant Professor Hank Stratton, is the story of “Cripple Billy,” an orphan in search of escape from the oppression of his daily life.  Set off the west coast of Ireland, on the remote Island of Inishmaan, the play begins as word arrives that a Hollywood film is to be shot on a neighboring island.  The one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young “Cripple Billy.”  Bringing his signature wry wit and biting social irony, playwright Martin McDonagh has crafted a painfully funny coming of age story that employs a series of whiplash reversals and false expectations.  From the writer of In Bruges and the recently Oscar nominated film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the poignant comic masterpiece is equal parts dark comedy and Irish fable.

Ticket prices range from $17 to $28.  Discounts available for seniors, military, UA employee/alumni and groups of 10 or more.  Tickets can be purchased at tickets.arizona.edu or by calling the College of Fine Arts Box Office at (520) 621-1162 or in person at 1025 N. Olive Road.  Box office hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 12-4pm.

The Cripple of Inishmaan has a run time of 2 hours 12 minutes including one 15-minute intermission.  A pre-show discussion is scheduled on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 12:45pm.  A post-show discussion with members of the cast is scheduled on Friday, November 30, 2018 following the performance.  The Cripple of Inishmaan is sponsored by Pat Engels and Richard Medland.
