ABOUT THE SHOW

In 1998, members of Tectonic Theater Project traveled to Laramie, Wyoming to explore the town’s response to the murder of Matthew Shepard, a gay university student. The result of that exploration is this play: a story about love, hate, hope, fear, and courage in an American town. Join us for the 25th anniversary presentation of a groundbreaking theatrical experience, directed by its original co-writer and performer.

Free tickets to this production are available for all college and high school students. For details, visit azart.fyi/freetftvtix.

Join us for our companion event Matthew Shepard’s Legacy: Then and Now, an in-person conversation with activists Judy and Dennis Shepard, the parents of Matthew Shepard, together with panelists including local community advocate for transgender youth and families, Lizette Trujillo. Since Matthew Shepard’s death in 1998, Judy and Dennis Shepard have worked tirelessly to transform our country’s thinking and legislation to protect LGBTQ + people. In Arizona, Lizette Trujillo and her son Daniel have been on the front lines fighting for the protection, recognition, and inclusion of the transgender community. A personal and timely conversation about Matthew’s legacy, how it has changed the world, and where the work of cultural transformation goes from here.

Co-presented by the University of Arizona School of Theatre, Film & Television and the University of Arizona LGBTQ+ Institute.
