Tucson, Arizona – The University of Arizona’s Arizona Repertory Theatre has begun offering all student tickets in 2017 at $15 each for all reserved seats. Student tickets have been $19 for plays and $21 for musicals for several years.

There is also a bonus opportunity for University of Arizona students to take their chances and pay just $10 cash for a ticket, a half-hour before each and every performance, on a first-come, first-served basis. This is called Student Rush.

“UA Students won’t get to choose their seats if they elect to stand in a Student Rush line, but it’s a deep discount that won’t be offered to any other population,” said Lisa Pierce, Director of Marketing & Development for the UA School of Theatre, Film & Television. “Many of our patrons say our productions are just as ambitious and incredible as anything they’ve seen in the professional arena – some say even better than the Broadway versions they’ve seen. So for UA students to see the high-caliber production values that UA Theatre majors offer for either $15 or $10 is rather extraordinary.”

Pierce said that if students wish to take a break from their studies and electronic screens for a short time, theatre can be one of the most enriching experiences that can recharge and inspire them; make them even better members of their community and better humans, in general. “Theatre is meant to keep us in touch with our humanity; to empathize,” said Pierce. She said that attending live performances has been proven to help reduce the risks of depression and Alzheimer’s disease, and even promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills. “Don’t take my word for it,” said Pierce. “Please research it yourself.”

The Spring productions of 2017 – PROOF by David Auburn, TWELFTH NIGHT by William Shakespeare and EVITA by Tim Rice with lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Webber – are now on sale at the $15 rate for any students with a verifiable student I.D. For Student Rush, UA students only need to present their CatCard when they lay down either a Hamilton or two Lincolns at the UA Fine Arts Box Office. Since these student prices are so deeply discounted, there is no different price for a student group sale.

For more information about performance dates & times, show summary information, photos, videos and more, visit theatre.arizona.edu. You can also call the UA Fine Arts Box Office at (520) 621-1162 from 12pm to 4pm, Monday-Friday. The UA Fine Arts Box Office, located inside the Marroney Theatre in between the Fred Fox School of Music and UA Museum of Art, is also open one hour prior to each performance, but closed during most UA holidays.

Tucson, AZ – January 31, 2016

TUCSON, AZ – One of Shakespeare’s last and greatest works, The Tempest is part fairy tale, part romance and nothing but pure magic. From
the crash of the opening storm, to the echo of the play’s famous closing lines, audiences will be spellbound by the beauty of Shakespeare’s language and enthralled by the brilliance of his invention. Prospero, the magician and exiled Duke; Miranda, his beautiful daughter; Caliban, his half-human slave; and Ariel, a spirit of the air; are all part of the story, but Shakespeare is the true star in this late, great masterpiece of reconciliation and forgiveness.

To mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death, the Folger Shakespeare Library is sending a First Folio to every state in the United States, and the University of Arizona was chosen through a competitive selection process to be the host site for Arizona! The touring exhibit will be installed at the Arizona State Museum. Join us as we celebrate the greatest playwright of the English language with First Folio! The Book That Gave Us Shakespeare, and visit firstfolio.arizona.edu to participate in other Shakespeare-related events on and off campus, including our production of The Comedy of Errors, running in repertory with The Tempest!

Tucson, AZ – January 31, 2016

TUCSON, AZ – One of Shakespeare’s first and most beloved works, The Comedy of Errors is a madcap adventure of mistaken identity and the chaos that ensues. Combining farce, slapstick humor and romance, Shakespeare’s tale takes two sets of twins separated at birth and throws them all into a town renowned for sorcery. The result is a comic masterpiece, showing audiences that even a young William Shakespeare knew how to weave a tale that still ensnares us all.

Tucson, AZ – December 17, 2015

TUCSON, AZ – On a snowy Christmas Eve, Rachel discovers her husband has hired a hitman to kill her, sending her out the window and into an unusual series of misadventures that include multiple identities, murder and game shows. Joining forces along the way with a humanitarian and his paraplegic wife, Rachel must reconcile the balance between her inexhaustible optimism and the world’s unavoidable realities. Leaving no Christmas celebration unscathed, playwright Craig Lucas blurs the lines between fantasy and reality in a dark comedy that speaks to love, loss, and the indefatigable hope of the human heart.

“Working with the students of ART at the University of Arizona is once again a great pleasure,” said guest director, Hank Stratton. The deep talent in the BFA program is unmistakable, and my task as guest director is to maintain the company’s professional standards, providing the students with a first-rate production to showcase their extraordinary talents.” Stratton added that he is extremely fortunate to be working with brilliant lighting and scenic designers, since without them, he and the cast would not be able to present the professional quality that Tucson audiences have come to expect.
